Hi Sal,

I work in a DirectQuery only reporting environment - to me, it's a crippled version of a wonderful tool but it's what I have.

I would love more information about the constraints on building DAX measures in a DirectQuery implementation, and any hints on how to do more complex measures. If there is a list showing what DAX functions work & what doesn't, I haven't been able to locate it...

At times I create multiple measures that I use in another measure to get to the information the business wants. Is there a best practice I should be aiming for?

We have one date table available to use in a model that contains over 100 other tables. The data table has no relationship to any other table. I have built a (very) few measures using the date table, but it's been very much a cross your fingers & hope exercise, so any suggestions, hints or tips on working with a disconnected date table in a DirectQuery implementation would be great.

Occasionally I build direct from the database because it's the only way to get what I need. It's so much easier to work without all the constraints that DirectQuery has! But our IT department strongly discourage that.

There doesn't seem to be much information or user question & answer available for working in the DirectQuery environment when compared to Power BI without the restrictions. I've worked my way through problems by myself - not ideal.

Any pointers you have would be hugely appreciated!

Regards,

Marg
